Our History

1985

Ansett Worldwide Aviation Services is formed as a leasing venture between TNT and News Corporation, joint owners of the Australian airline, Ansett Airlines. Ansett Worldwide Aviation Services delivers its first aircraft on lease to America West in October 1986.

1990s

Ansett Worldwide Aviation Services continues to work through large orders with Boeing, Airbus and McDonnell Douglas. The company’s order book represents firm orders valued at $4.5 billion at list prices, with additional options worth $2.1 billion.

2000

In April 2000 US investment bank Morgan Stanley Dean Witter acquires AWAS. By the year 2000, the fleet was comprised of 105 aircraft, valued at circa $3 billion.

2006

Dubai Aerospace Enterprise is founded and established in Dubai. In March 2006, AWAS moved its headquarters to Dublin, Ireland.

2007

In June 2007, AWAS acquires Pegasus Aviation Finance Company, San Francisco and combines the two businesses. The combination of AWAS and Pegasus creates the world's third-largest aircraft lessor.

2008

In January 2008, AWAS completes an order for 100 new aircraft from Airbus. This deal valued at $6.9 billion at list prices, will see AWAS take possession of 75 new A320 aircraft with options for an additional 25.

2015

Celebrating 30 years in the business, AWAS announced a landmark deal selling 90 young portfolio aircraft for close to $4 billion.

2017

Dubai Aerospace Enterprise acquires the AWAS group of companies. The acquisition of AWAS propels DAE into the top tier of global aircraft lessors. This combined entity emerges with an owned, managed and committed fleet of approximately 400 aircraft with a value of over $14 billion.
